Iran’s Foreign Minister, Mohammad Javad Zarif, said that a ceasefire plan in Yemen was torpedoed by the United States, according to an interview on Monday.

In a televised interview with al-Mayadeen channel on Monday, Zarif said that since the first week of the Saudi aggression on Yemen, Iran, Turkey, Oman and Pakistan agreed on a ceasefire plan and on holding a Yemeni-Yemeni dialogue.

However, this plan was torpedoed by the US which preferred to go on with the attack on Yemeni people, Zarif told al-Mayadeen.

He further stressed that Iran has no interest in destabilizing Yemen and Saudi Arabia.

Saudi Arabia is continuing its brutal airstrikes against Yemen despite the deteriorating humanitarian situation in the impoverished country.

Saudi Arabia has also blocked aid to Yemen.

The US-led Saudi military aggression against Yemen started on March 26 -- without a UN mandate -- in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement, and to restore power to Yemen’s fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, who is a close ally of Saudi Arabia.
