Yemenis Hold Massive Rally on Int’l Quds Day as Ceasefire Takes Hold

Thousands of people have flooded the streets of Yemen’s capital of Sana’a on Friday to denounce the "Israeli" regime’s crimes against Palestinians on the International Quds Day, as a humanitarian ceasefire has taken hold in Yemen.

During the march on Friday, the Yemeni demonstrators carried Palestinian flags and chanted anti-"Israel" slogans to show their solidarity with the oppressed Palestinian nation.

Yemen’s Quds Day rally was held although Yemenis have been suffering from daily Saudi airstrikes since March.

The United Nations [UN] announced on Thursday that a humanitarian truce will go into force in Yemen at midnight local time on Friday to allow urgently needed aid to reach civilians in the war-torn country.

The humanitarian truce in Yemen did not come until Friday, more than 100 days after Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies began to launch deadly air strikes against Yemen.

Since March, a Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States has been carrying out airstrikes against Yemen. The airstrikes have not been authorized by the UN.

The Saudi attacks have killed more than 2,600 people and injured at least 11,000 since the military aggression began against Yemen on March 26, according to UN records.

Moreover, similar rallies were held in Iran, Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine, Bahrain and some other Muslim countries.

Each year, millions of people across the world hold massive rallies on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan to show their solidarity with the Palestinian people.

It is seen as an opportunity for freedom-seeking people across the world, regardless of faith, to voice their support for the cause of Palestine and vent their anger against the apartheid regime of "Israel", which has occupied Palestine since 1948.
