Saudis Prevent Ships Carrying Aid from Docking at Hodeida Port

According to the Yemeni Saba news agency, the Saudi-led coalition blocked three ships carrying foodstuffs from entering Yemen’s territorial waters on Tuesday.

The Saudis reportedly prevented the vessels from docking at the port of Hodeida. The news comes amid growing fears that Riyadh and Washington are preparing to launch an assault on the port, which UN aid agencies say would only worsen the already dire humanitarian situation in the country.

Hodeida serves as the entry point for over 70% of the humanitarian assistance entering Yemen.

The Saudis launched their military campaign in Yemen in March 2015. But in the two years since the coalition has been unable to achieve any of its stated military objectives. Riyadh’s response to its setbacks has consisted largely of indiscriminately bombing and starving the civilian population.
