Iranian President Urges Saudi Arabia to Stop Interfering in Yemen

President Sheikh Hassan Rouhani held Saudi Arabia responsible for the worsening relations between the two countries, pointing to Riyadh’s actions in a number of Middle Eastern countries.

During a news conference in Tehran the Iranian leader said that the Saudis “should stop interfering in Yemen and Syria”.

Saudi Arabia has been bombing Yemen since March 2015 to reinstate former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi and undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement.

The campaign has devastated Yemen’s infrastructure killing over 12,000 people and causing a famine in the country.

Tehran has been calling for a negotiated settlement to the conflict, urging Riyadh to end its bombardment.
