Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov reaffirmed Moscow's support of the resumption of Yemen peace talks during meeting with Yemen’s ousted president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
According to the Russian Foreign Ministry Bogdanov and Hadi held talks in Jordan ahead of the Arab League summit on Wednesday.
"The Russian side reaffirmed its principal position supporting the establishment of a ceasefire regime in Yemen as soon as possible, the resumption of the negotiating process, which would take into account the interests of all leading political forces in the country," the ministry said in a statement.
Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to Hadi.
About 12,000 people have been killed and over 20,000 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes.
