Sayed Houthi: The Saudis Failed to Achieve Goals in Yemen

The leader of the Yemeni Ansarullah movement, Sayed Abdulmalek Alhouthi, asserted that Saudi Arabia has failed to achieve its goals in Yemen, despite its relentless military campaign against its neighbour.

Sayed Abdulmalek Alhouthi made the comments during a televised speech marking two years since Riyadh launched its war against Yemen.

He stressed that the kingdom’s almost daily airstrikes against civilians in Yemen are nothing short of war crimes.

Alsayed Abdulmalek added that the Saudis, backed by several regional and international countries, were using some of the most lethal armaments against the people in Yemen.

Multiple international rights groups have issued reports documenting the use of cluster bombs and other internationally-banned weapons.

Ansarullah’s leader also slammed Saudi Arabia’s the constant destruction of Yemeni infrastructures such as schools and hospitals.

While noting that Saudi Arabia’s aggression only served the Israeli agenda focused on creating instability in the region, Sayed Alhouthi praised the people of Yemen for their resilience and for safeguarding the country's dignity.

“Yemeni people reject US hegemony as they show hostility to the Zionist entity and voice support to the Palestinian cause,” he said.

Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

The war has drawn widespread international condemnation.

More than half of Yemen’s 22 million people are currently living at emergency levels of food insecurity and need urgent relief – especially in remote rural areas that are often overlooked by humanitarian schemes.

An estimated 12,000 have been killed and nearly 20,000 others injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s infrastructure.
