UNICEF said that a large segment of Yemeni children are on the brink of famine due to malnutrition that increases the risk of infections dramatically as more than half of the medical facilities have stopped working.

Meritxell Relaño, the UNICEF Resident Representative, said in a press conference held at the UNICEF's headquarter on Wednesday that many children in the past two years have died because of preventable diseases.

Relaño added that the number of the dead children dying is increasing due to the armed conflict.

The UN official added that children must be vaccinated at vaccination campaigns across Yemen to save their lives.

UNICEF and its partners managed to reach around 5 million under the age five and vaccinated them against polio.

UNICEF also called for halting military clashes as soon as possible so as to avert huge disasters that are threatening children's lives.

Relaño said that organization exerted more efforts to reach Mocha city despite the difficult situations whether via Hodeida province road or Aden province road.
