The Yemeni army and popular forces killed tens of US-Saudi-paid mercenaries when they tried to infiltrate toward Nehm area of Mareb of province, a military official told the state-run news agency Saba on Wednesday.
The mercenaries were killed in Aida area of the district.
Moreover, the national army backed by the popular forces also attacked a military vehicle of the mercenaries in Malh area in the same district, killing and wounding dozens of the mercenaries, the official added.
Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
About 11,403 people have been killed and over 19,343 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.
Yemeni forces have been engaged in retaliatory attacks against the Saudi forces deployed in the country as well as targets inside Saudi Arabia.
