The Yemeni army and popular forces on Thursday captured and secured new sites and areas in Taiz province, a military official told the state-run news agency Saba.

The national army secured the sites in al-Ma'a fer district and the road leading to Hamir area, as well al-Mafalis School and other sites in Haifan area in the same district, the official said.

The official added that the allied forces captured al-Sair's souk and a village in al-Salu district in the same province, causing heavy losses among the mercenaries.

Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

About 11,403 people have been killed and over 19,343 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.

Yemeni forces have been engaged in retaliatory attacks against the Saudi forces deployed in the country as well as targets inside Saudi Arabia.
