Officials of the private sector met with the Head of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, George Khoury, in Yemen.
In the meeting, the officials discussed UN efforts to lift the all-out blockade on Yemen that is imposed by the Saudi-led coalition.
The officials discussed the possibilities to pressure the aggression countries to lift the economic siege and enable the Yemeni private sector to import goods to alleviate the suffering of the people.
The officials stressed on the necessity for the UN cooperation to help the private sector transfer cash liquidity from the local banks to foreign banks in order to facilitate importing goods and meet the basic needs of the Yemeni people.
Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
About 11,403 people have been killed and over 19,343 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.
Yemeni forces have been engaged in retaliatory attacks against the Saudi forces deployed in the country as well as targets inside Saudi Arabia.
