Yemeni Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf sent on Monday a cable of condolences to Iranian Foreign Minister Muhammad Javad Zarif on the death of former Iranian president Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani.
In the cable, Hishan Sharaf indicated to the role played by the deceased in enhancing the Arab-Iranian relations on the basis of common interests, lauding his attitude in rejecting the Saudi aggression against Yemen's.
He expressed his sincere condolences to the deceased's family and the Iranian people.
Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, the former president of Iran, died on Sunday at the age of 82 due to a heart attack in a hospital in the capital Tehran, according to the ISNA news agency.
Rafsanjani, a veteran cleric, a pillar of the Islamic Revolution and a leading politician, served in different positions in the post-1979 Islamic Revolution era. He also served as president of the Islamic Republic from 1989 to 1997.
