Yemen’s Speaker of the Parliament Yahya Ali al-Raei met on Tuesday with head of the World Health organization's (WHO) representative in Yemen Ahmed Chadol.

At the meeting, al-Raei listened to a detailed explanation about the tasks and activities of WHO and the role played by the organization in the country.

WHO supports and provides medical, health and humanitarian services for people in hospitals and health centers that require assistance.

Al-Raei also listened to some of the difficulties and challenges faced by the organization that hinder its performance.

The Yemeni official affirmed the importance of communicating between the parliament and the organization to discuss any recent issues and to enhance cooperation between the two.

The speaker expressed his readiness to overcome any difficulties or challenges standing in the way of the UN group to enable it to do its humanitarian objectives in the right way.

Al-Raei added that he would follow up with the concerned authorities in the country to facilitate WHO’s job in the war-torn country.

Ahmed Chadol, for his part, noted the significance of enhancing the relations between WHO and the donor countries to implement and achieve their humanitarian tasks, stressing the importance of those countries in providing the organization with its needs in order to deliver aid to the affected areas in Yemen.

The UN official added that some medicines were requested by the Ministry of Health and were imported by WHO, but were delayed at some ports. So the UN group requested from the parliament and the concerned authorities to get them out of the stores in order to be distributed to hospitals.

The Arab world’s most impoverished country is passing through difficult times due to the continuous Saudi-led aggression as well as the sea, land, and air blockade imposed by the coalition which is preventing much needed aid including medicines and foodstuffs from entering Yemen.
