The spokesman for the Yemeni army Sharaf Luqman reaffirmed on Saturday the army’s commitment to the ceasefire in line with Oman’s principle agreement, providing the other side should abide by the agreed truce.

"According to the principle agreement struck in the Omani Capital, we affirm our commitment to the cease fire if the other side abides by the truce and halts all military actions," the spokesman stated.

Saudi Arabia has announced a renewable 48-hour ceasefire in Yemen set to go into effect at 0900 GMT on Saturday, the official Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported earlier.

According to the statement the truce will be extended if Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement shows commitment to it and if the group allows "humanitarian aid" into areas under siege.

Saudi Arabia has come under international opprobrium for the sheer size of the casualties from the war it is leading since March 2015 to crush the Houthi Ansarullah movement and bring back the former Yemeni government to power.

The offensive has so far killed 10,000 amid countless reports suggesting deliberate and indiscriminate targeting of civilian infrastructure by Saudi jets and mercenaries.
