Yemen’s negotiating team representing the Ansarullah movement met with Oman’s Foreign Minister Yusuf bin Alawi at the headquarters of the Foreign Ministry in Muscat.
In a statement posted on his page Facebook, the Ansarullah spokesman and head of the delegation, Mohammed Abdel Salam, said that the meeting tackled the political, security, humanitarian and economic situations in Yemen.
Abdel Salam also stated that the United Nations peace plan presented by the UN Special Envoy to Yemen Ismail Ould Sheikh Ahmed was discussed during the meeting, adding that the deficiencies and imbalances in some of the details and timing were discussed.
Important issues including the land, sea and air blockade imposed by the Saudi-led coalition against Yemen as well as it’s lifting and which weren’t mentioned in Ahmed’s peace plan were also discussed in the meeting.
For his part, the Omani Minister stressed his country’s keenness in ending the war and alleviating the suffering of the Yemeni people. Alawi also urged for the success of the peace negotiations in accordance with a comprehensive and parallel path, pointing out that the plan presented by the UN envoy is considered to be a debatable plan.
Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
About 10,000 people have been killed and over 16,000 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.
