The President of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council Saleh al-Sammad received newly appointed Russia’s charge d’affaires in Yemen, Andry Chernov, in the presidential palace in the capital Sana’a.

The meeting took place on Monday, during which Sammad welcomed Chernov, wishing him every success in his new diplomatic mission to the country.

He added that it would strengthen the Russian stance towards the Yemeni issue through enhancing Moscow’s distinguished efforts towards the peace process in the war-torn country and achieve justice sought by the Yemeni people.

The meeting dealt with the international community’s stance towards the latest development regarding the peace process in Yemen as well as Russia’s efforts to achieve peace in the country.

The officials also reviewed the crimes committed by the Saudi-led military coalition against the Yemeni people, including the latest coalition airstrikes on a funeral hall in Sana’a that left hundreds of civilians dead and wounded.

Sammad stressed on the importance of the Russian role on exerting efforts to address the humanitarian situation in Yemen following the escalation of the Saudi-led military campaign and its air, land and sea blockade that badly damaged the health sector and public infrastructure.

For his part, Russia’s charge d’affaires expressed his readiness to work in Yemen and thanked the Yemeni leadership and people for their good reception.
