Iran: Continued Sale of Arms Emboldened Saudi Attacks on Yemen

Iran on Friday denounced Saudi Strikes on Yemen, stressing that the international community silence and the continued sale of arms emboldened Riyadh’s attacks on Yemen.

"Sadly, the indifference of the international community and continued sale of all kinds of arms to Saudi Arabia have emboldened this regime in its attacks on the oppressed and defenseless people of Yemen," foreign ministry spokesman Bahram Qasemi said, quoted by state broadcaster IRIB.

The Saudis "continue their endless violations" while "the meaningful silence of some Western countries on the massacre of innocent people will undoubtedly make them more hated in the eyes of the world and a partner in the child-killing regime’s crimes," he added.

The Saudi-led coalition air raid in the Red Sea port of Hodeida on Wednesday night killed 20 civilians.

Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

About 10,000 people have been killed and over 16,000 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.
