A Saudi soldier has been killed in a landmine explosion while patrolling the border with Yemen in the Saudi southwestern region of Jazan late on Tuesday, local media reported.

"A soldier died in a landmine explosion while performing his duties in one of the border guards patrol along the border [with Yemen] in the Jazan province," a security spokesperson for the Saudi Ministry of Interior was cited by the Saudi Press Agency.

Yemen has been engulfed in a military conflict between the regime headed by Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and Houthi Ansarullah revolutionaries and allied forces.

Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

About 10,000 people have been killed and over 16,000 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.
