Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, former Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs, told Mehr News on Tuesday that Saudi’s relentless aerial bombardment of residential areas and infrastructure in Yemen and violation of ceasefire have rendered Yemenis’ political talks practically ineffective.
While stressing that Tehran has had and will have no intervention in Yemeni affairs, he said "Iran will, however, continue to lend spiritual support and humanitarian aid to the people of Yemen."
"Despite Saudi’s sabotage and prevention in sending humanitarian aid to the Yemeni people, we have performed rather well in dispatching aid through coordination with relevant international and regional organizations," said Iranian official.
Amir-Abdollahian criticized Saudi Arabia’s warmongering policy in the region and blamed the Arab kingdom as the main cause for the current regional crises; "if Saudi Arabia does not correct its wrong policies, in addition to itself, the region will also be affected far worse than before," he added.
Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
About 10,000 people have been killed and over 16,000 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.
