The spokesperson for Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement stated that his organisation is committed to what was agreed upon in the recent peace talks that concluded in Kuwait almost two weeks ago.

Mohammad Abdul Salam posted on his Facebook page the following statement: "We emphasize our commitment to what we agreed upon in the first round of consultations with the UN envoy. We are also committed to the specified schedule for holding the next round of talks in Kuwait without preconditions and with a halt of military actions as well as the transfer of the Pacification and Coordination Commission close to the military operations and to ensure the cessation of hostilities by land, sea and air. We will continue consultations in Kuwait as per the set date to reach a comprehensive solution in accordance with the terms of reference agreed upon including the international resolutions related to the Yemeni affairs, but with no violation to the national sovereignty - with our reservations on the sanctions provision."

The statement goes on: "We express our rejection and severe condemnation to the Saudi Aggression and its mercenaries’ continuous aerial bombardment, military build-up on various fronts, and the continuation of the unjust siege and economic constraints which are in clear violation to what was agreed upon during the first round of peace talks in Kuwait. We emphasize that the Yemeni people, the army, the security forces and the people’s committees have the full right to respond to this aggression in various legitimate ways."

Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

About 10,000 people have been killed and over 16,000 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.

Yemeni forces have been engaged in retaliatory attacks against the Saudi forces deployed in the country as well as targets inside Saudi Arabia.
