Ireland Pledges €2m Aid for Yemen

Local Editor

Ireland’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade Charlie Flanagan announced on Monday the commitment of €2 million in humanitarian support for Yemen where an estimated 80% of the population is in immediate need of humanitarian help.

A civil war which erupted in March 2015, combined with the long-term effects of drought and poverty, have left over 21 million people in need of help.

The funding will go towards the UN’s Yemen humanitarian pooled fund, which uses local knowledge to ensure that frontline organizations who are best-placed to respond are given the means to reach those in need.
