The access of United Nations and other humanitarian organizations to Yemen is complicated due to continuing military actions in the country, Russian Ambassador in Yemen Vladimir Dedushkin told TASS on Thursday.
"New numbers have recently emerged, and they are ever more troubling - numbers of those killed, injured and displaced. Unfortunately, the numbers have increased," Dedushkin said. "Humanitarian access of UN and other humanitarian organizations to Yemen is restricted. It is even more difficult than in Syria. Military actions in Yemen continue and the security situation remains complicated," he added.
"The humanitarian situation in Yemen is carefully observed by UN and discussed weekly on the initiative of the Russian side," the ambassador said. "The war should be stopped, and political talks should start. Everyone is waiting for it, expects this," he noted.
Talking about resumption of inter-Yemeni consultations in March, the diplomat said that such possibility exists. "However, it is too early to talk about the concrete date of talks. These are preliminary estimates and plans of UN Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheik Ahmed," Dedushkin added.
More than 8,300 people have been killed and over 16,000 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. Around 21.1 million people need humanitarian aid and more than 2.5 million were internally displaced. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.
