Iran has criticized the United Arab Emirates, a member of the Saudi-led coalition waging war on Yemen, for trying to justify the alliance’s bloodshed in the impoverished country by using ’Iranophobic’ pretexts.
The UAE Foreign Minister Anwar Mohammed Gargash earlier said that the Yemen operation by the coalition meant to send "a strong message" to the Islamic republic that the Arab world’s stance was unified about the issue.
"There should not be a long transition period depriving Yemen of access to funds needed for development under a temporary political solution," Khaleej Times quoted Gargash as saying. "A prolonged political solution would be used by Daesh (ISIS) and Al Qaida, as they take advantage of any political vacuum, and this is exactly what happened in Syria, Libya and Iraq."
Iran was quick to hit back at the UAE minister as Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaber-Ansari called it "illogical" to justify the Yemen strikes.
"Such feeble and illogical arguments cannot justify the destruction of a defenseless country’s infrastructure and intentional bloodshed of thousands of innocent Yemeni civilians," Press TV quoted Jaber-Ansari as saying.
More than 7,500 people have been killed and over 14,000 others injured since the onset of the military attacks on Yemen. The strikes have also taken a heavy toll on the impoverished country’s facilities and infrastructure, destroying many hospitals, schools, and factories.
Humanitarian organizations have had little or no access to deliver aid to the affected areas in the war-ravaged country.
