Yemeni medical sources said that al-Qaeda launched attacks on two army positions in southeast Yemen early Friday that left 15 soldiers and 19 al-Qaeda extremists dead, as well as several civilians wounded.

Local officials said that fierce clashes broke out after al-Qaeda militants exploded a roadside bomb targeting an army patrol, while a suicide bomber blew up a car at an army post near a residential area.

This comes as a Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States has been carrying out a military aggression on Yemen by launching airstrikes against the country since March.

The airstrikes have not been authorized by the United Nations [UN].
