The Yemeni army and popular committees have shot down a Saudi warplane in Yemen’s northern province of Sa’ada on Thursday, while the US-led Saudi aggression continues with its unabated aerial assaults against the country.

SABA news agency said that the Saudi fighter jet was shot down by a guided missile and crashed in the Ghamar district of the province, according to a military official.

The search is underway for the jet’s crew in the surrounding areas, the official added.

A few days earlier, specialized units in the army and popular committees downed a second Saudi spy plane in a week, noting that the spy drone was downed in the border Al-Hasamah area in Al-Thahir district in Sa’ada.

Also on October 9, Yemeni soldiers supported by popular committees’ fighters shot down a Saudi spy drone in the Kitaf district of Sa’ada Province. The small UAV was later identified as a long-endurance Boeing Insitu ScanEagle.

A Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States has been carrying out a military aggression on Yemen by launching airstrikes against the country since March 26.

The airstrikes have not been authorized by the United Nations [UN].

The US-led Saudi aggression began in a bid to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to the country’s fugitive former Yemeni president, Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Saudi Arabia.

As a result, the Yemeni army backed by popular committees and tribal fighters has been responding to the aggression by targeting several Saudi border military posts and cleansing several areas across the country from Hadi and al-Qaeda-linked militias.
