The Yemeni army and the Popular Committees forces fought off a large crawl by the American-Saudi attacking forces towards Bab al-Mandeb Strait on Friday, a Yemeni military source said.

Speaking to SABA news agency, the military source stated that the Saudi-led coalition units tried to sneak into Bab al-Mandeb strait, with the help of heavy fire cover by the Saudi-led coalition warplanes and warships.

"The army and the Committees fought them off and managed to break their crawl", he said, adding that the attacking troops were forced to retreat after being inflicted heavy losses.

On March 26, Saudi Arabia and some of its Arab allies backed by the United States began to launch air strikes against the country in an attempt to restore power to fugitive former Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Saudi Arabia.

The airstrikes have not been authorized by the UN.

As a result, the Yemeni army backed by popular committees and tribal fighters has been responding to the aggression by targeting several Saudi border military posts and cleansing several areas across the country from Hadi and al-Qaeda-linked militias.
