Al-Murtada: Other Party Rejected UN Envoy’s Proposals Regarding Prisoners' File

The head of Committee for Prisoners’ Affairs Abdul Qader al-Murtada said on Monday that all the proposals made by the UN envoy regarding the prisoners' file were approved by Yemen and rejected by the other party.

“We unilaterally initiated the release of hundreds of prisoners as a good-will gesture and to push the agreement into effect," Al-Murtada told Al-Thawra Newspaper. “The other party deals with the prisoners file as a political file and not a humanitarian one."

Al-Murtada explained that the performance of the UN envoy did not live up to the required level despite making good suggestions. He noted that every crime committed against the prisoners was submitted to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

However, the ICRC blames the Saudi-led coalition for its inability to act, accusing it of not allowing it to visit the prisons.
