Thousands of Yemenis staged a huge demonstration in Yemen’s capital of Sana’a on Monday, responding to the call of the leader of the Houthi Ansaruallah movement, Sayyed Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, for mass protests in solidarity with the Al-Aqsa Mosque as well as to denounce the deadly US-led Saudi aggression against their country.
Al-Aqsa mosque has been the target of "Israeli" attacks for several days, while a Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States has been carrying out a military aggression on Yemen by launching airstrikes against the country since March 26. The airstrikes have not been authorized by the United Nations [UN].
The massive protest was held to mark the first anniversary of the Yemenis’ revolution of September 21 against the corrupt administration of the country’s fugitive former Yemeni president, Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi.
The protest came a day after the Houthi leader urged Yemenis to stage the demonstration to "prove to the world that the people stand by the leadership of the revolution".
"Our revolution will continue until we guarantee our existence, dignity and independence, these things cannot be compromised", Sayyed Houthi said while addressing Yemenis on the eve of the first anniversary of the Yemeni revolution.
Sayyed Houthi also voiced support for diplomatic efforts to solve the deadly conflict as long as they "do not harm the national sovereignty, legitimize the [Saudi] aggression and deny the Yemeni people their rights".
Last summer [2014], the Ansarullah activists, who played a major role in the ouster of the country’s longtime dictator, Ali Abdullah Saleh, staged demonstrations in Sana’a for nearly two months, demanding the departure of Hadi’s government over corruption and marginalization.
