Sudanese Newspaper: The UAE Is Besieging Our Army In Yemen

Local Editor

A Sudanese newspaper reported Sunday that the United Arab Emirates is besieging Sudanese soldiers fighting alongside the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.

According to Al-Sudan Al-youm, the Saudis and the Emiratis expressed their dismay regarding complaints and decisions by some Sudanese soldiers not to take part in military operations in Yemen and their desire to return home.

Riyadh and Abu Dhabi enforced measures at all military posts along the Mukha-Aden road to prevent the passage of any Sudanese soldiers that didn’t have a permit from the West Coast operations.

This measure is the result of fears that large numbers of Sudanese troops may flee their posts and expose the already weakened front.

Meanwhile, Sudanese soldiers were informed that the decision to end their participation in Yemen was in the hands of their government, in accordance with the cooperation agreement between them and the Arab coalition.

Hundreds of Sudanese soldiers have declared their desire to stop fighting and return to their country. Not only did they express their desire to leave the front, but hundreds of them have tried to abandon their military positions on the outskirts of the city of Khokha. However, the UAE has pushed military reinforcements to the vicinity of the camps of the Sudanese soldiers and besieged them, restricting the movements of the troops.

It is not the first time that news of Sudanese soldiers complaining surfaced. It is also not the first time that the UAE forces have surrounded their Sudanese colleagues. But it is the first time that the number of soldiers trying to withdraw is so high.
