EU Reiterates Calls for Implementation of Stockholm Agreement

The European Union called on warring Yemeni parties to resort to “sustainable political solutions” to end the crisis grappling Yemen.

“The EU reiterates its firm belief that there is no military solution to this conflict and continues to support the efforts of the UN Special Envoy Martin Griffiths in the implementation of the Stockholm Agreement,” read the statement issued on Sunday.

As Yemen enters its fifth year of conflict, the EU Ambassador Antonia-Calvo Puerta and the Deputy Head of the Delegation Riccardo Villa visited Aden for a third time this year from 23 to 27 March to discuss key priorities of the resigned regime of former Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

The EU mission also met with representatives of civil society, the Abductee mothers' Association and INGOs to hear about the multiple challenges that these actors are facing on a daily basis. Further, the EU visited UNESCO Heritage sites, including the National and Military Museum of Aden, as part of an EU-funded UNESCO rehabilitation project.

“Yemen and Yemenis are paying the highest price of this extremely violent war,” the statement said. “The regular EU missions to Yemen are a visible sign of the wish of the EU to lend all its support to the efforts of those who are engaged in alleviating the suffering of Yemenis.”
