Head of Yemen’s Supreme Political Council (SPC) Mahdi Al-Mashat received the United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths, on Wednesday and discussed with him the latest developments.
During the meeting, Al-Mashat stressed the Yemeni national team’s commitment to the Sweden agreement despite the violations committed by the Saudi-led forces.
For his part, Griffiths thanked Al-Mashat for the humanitarian gesture that included releasing the ill Saudi captive, expressing his condolences on the martyrdom of the engineer Mohammad Al-Othri while participating in demining operations in Hodeida.
Yemen has been under brutal military aggression by the Saudi-led coalition since 2015. The campaign was launched in a bid to forcefully restore to power fugitive president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi, who is a staunch ally of Riyadh.
Tens of thousands of people have been killed and injured in the strikes launched by the coalition, with the vast majority of them being civilians.
The coalition, which includes Saudi Arabia, UAE, Bahrain, Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Sudan and Kuwait, has also been imposing a harsh blockade against the impoverished nation.
