UN special envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths held talks in Muscat Sunday with Omani officials as part of his efforts to garner regional pressure to persuade the Yemeni warring parties to implement the Sweden deal.

Griffiths met with Acting Undersecretary of the Foreign Ministry for Diplomatic Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Awad al-Hassan, to discuss the latest developments in Yemen and international efforts to reach a truce and peace settlement, said official sources in Oman.

The UN official is then set to travel to Sana’a Monday in order to meet the Houthi Ansarullah leader and head of the UN advance team charged with monitoring the ceasefire, retired Dutch general Patrick Cammaert, Saudi Arabia’s Asharq Al-Awsat reported.

He is then expected in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, Wednesday for talks with former Yemeni President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi.

Head of the Houthi’s ruling council Mahdi Mshat met in Sana’a with the movement’s representatives in the redeployment team, which also includes Hadi regime members.

The meeting held the Hadi regime responsible for failing to implement the Sweden ceasefire.

In Aden, Maeen Abdul Malek, prime minister of the resigned Hadi regime, held talks with the ex-regime representatives in the committee tasked with following up on the Sweden deal.

Under UN sponsorship, the resigned Hadi regime and the Ansarullah movement had reached an agreement in Sweden on December 13 for the Houti forces’ withdrawal from Hodeida. The city and its three port will be restored under the control of the local authorities. The UN would also oversee the implementation of the deal.
