Oxfam Thursday hailed the UN-sponsored peace talks slated to take place between warring Yemeni parties in Sweden on Friday.
“The peace talks in Sweden are a critical opportunity to bring an end to the devastating conflict and the suffering it’s inflicting on the people of Yemen,” said Muhsin Siddiquey, Oxfam’s Yemen Country Director.
Siddiquey added “It’s shocking that in 18 months, tens of thousands of people have been forced into a catastrophic situation. Two thirds of Yemen’s population are now reliant on aid to survive.”
IPC announcement that more than 15 million people in Yemen are in a “crisis” and about 65,000 in a food “catastrophe”.
“This is a stark warning sign on the road to catastrophe,” warned Siddiquey.
