Madrid To Return Over USD 10 Million After Canceling Sale Of Bombs To Saudi Arabia

The government in Madrid reportedly cancelled the sale of 400 laser-guided bombs to Saudi Arabia over concerns that the weapons could be used against Yemen.

A Spanish radio station reported that Madrid would return the USD 10.6 million already paid by the Saudis for the arms shipment.

A Saudi-led coalition, which groups the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Jordan, Egypt, Kuwait, Morocco, Sudan, and Senegal, started bombing Yemen in March 2015.

Since then, members of the coalition have purchased billions of dollars worth of arms from western allies – namely the US and the UK.

Last month, a Yemeni journalist shared images online showing fragments of a US-made 500-pound MK-82 bomb at the site where the Saudi-led coalition struck a bus full of children.

The airstrike on the Dahyan area in Yemen’s northern Saad’a province killed 51 civilians, most of them children, and injuring at least 79 others.
