Amnesty Intl. Calls on US to Stop Supplying Arms to Countries Committing War Crimes in Yemen

Amnesty International is asking Americans speak up and demand Washington “stop supporting war crimes in Yemen”.

The international rights group is asking supporters to send a letter to their representative in the US congress to use their “leverage as an ally to call for the Saudi-led Coalition to fully comply with international humanitarian law in conducting airstrikes by ensuring that civilians and civilian objects are not targeted”.

Washington is supplying military exports to both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates — two countries committing war crimes in Yemen —and this year the Trump Administration has plans to expand this arms trade.

“Supplying arms to countries that are killing civilians, including children, is simply indefensible,” Amnesty added.

Over the past three years dozens of Saudi-led Coalition airstrikes have disproportionately and indiscriminately killed civilians, including children, and targeted civilian infrastructure like hospitals, school buses and markets.

Countries like Germany, Norway and Belgium have already cut off arms supplies to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates because of their human rights violations in Yemen.
