A senior security official with the regime of ousted Yemeni leader Abd Rabu Mansur Hadi has been gunned down in Hadhramaut province in eastern Yemen early Tuesday, according to a local official.
Two gunmen on a motorbike opened fire on Fahad bin Ali Jaber and fled the scene unscathed, the official said on condition of anonymity because he was unauthorized to speak to media.
He said Jaber was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack.
Tuesday’s assassination came one day after unidentified gunmen shot dead a soldier in Seoon town in Hadhramaut.
Hadhramaut has seen a spate of attacks targeting local officials, for which al-Qaeda group claimed responsibility.
Since 2015, Al-Qaeda has maintained an active presence in the province, mostly, in Al-Qutn directorate.
