In retaliation for the Saudi-led aggression on Yemen, the Yemeni army and the Popular Committees attacked a Saudi border military base on Monday and killed two soldier guards, Saudi Arabia’s official news agency said.

A statement by the official SPA agency said that the soldiers were killed on Sunday in the Jizan district bordering Yemen, identifying them as "Sergeants Ali al-Ghazwani and Sarwi al-Saeed".

It did not provide further details.

Moreover, SABA agency reported that the Popular Committees and the national Yemeni army attacked Saudi border positions in the Aseer and Jizan regions on Sunday.

"The forces fired Katyusha rockets, destroying Saudi army vehicles, and killing several soldiers," it said.

The two Saudi soldiers bring the number of troops killed in shelling and skirmishes on Saudi Arabia’s side along the frontier with Yemen to more than 51 since the Saudi-led military aggression on Yemen began in late March.

A Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States has been carrying out airstrikes against Yemen since March 26. The airstrikes have not been authorized by the UN.

The aggression began in an attempt to restore power to the fugitive former Yemeni President Abd Rabbuh Mansour Hadi, a close ally of Saudi Arabia.

The ’civilian’ death toll in Yemen has risen to at least 1,916, with another 4,186 civilians wounded since the escalation of the conflict in March, the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights [OHCHR] reported recently last week.
