A Saudi navy chief made a surprise visit to Yemen’s Aden on Wednesday, a Yemeni military official said, arriving on the first aircraft to land at the airport after four months since the Saudi aggression started.
According to the Saudi navy chief, "The arrival of this aircraft bearing "military aid" is the beginning of an airlift of "aid" and "humanitarian supplies" between Saudi Arabia and Yemen", the Yemeni official quoted him as saying.
Saudi Arabia has imposed a near total blockade on a country heavily reliant on imports.
Saudi Arabia began its US-led military aggression against Yemen on March 26 - without a United [UN] Nation mandate - in a bid to restore power to the country’s fugitive former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, who is a staunch ally of Saudis, and to undermine Yemen’s Houthi Ansarullah movement which is currently responding to the attacks on the country.
The Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States has also been carrying out airstrikes against Yemen since March 26. The airstrikes have not been authorized by the UN.
Based on UN figures, over 3,261 people have been killed, 1,670 of whom were civilians in the Saudi onslaught.
