Seyyed Khamenei Calls on Muslim Leaders to Prevent Yemen-Like Catastrophes

In his message for the annual Hajj pilgrimage to Mecca, the leader of the Islamic Revolution in Iran warned that the Muslim world is plagued by “moral, spiritual and political insecurity”.

“This has led to the Zionist enemy provoking sedition in the heart of the Muslim world, while we as Muslims – by ignoring the definite duty of saving Palestine – are busy with the domestic wars in Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya and Bahrain,” Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei’s statement reads.

Calling for “unity”, Seyyed Khamenei added that political, religious and cultural figures in the Islamic world share “the responsibility of urgently preventing catastrophic incidents in Islamic countries … such as the incidents in Yemen [which] are today a source of sorrow and protest throughout the world”.

Saudi Arabia has been leading a destructive military campaign against Yemen since March 2015 to reinstate former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi and crush the Houthi movement.

The campaign has devastated Yemen’s infrastructure killing over 12,000 people including many women and children.
