Dozens of Saudi-paid mercenaries were killed and others injured when the Yemeni army and popular forces foiled on Friday an infiltration attempt toward Nehm district of Sana'a province, a military official told theb state-run news agency Saba.

Dozens of the mercenaries were killed and wounded in the operation, when they tried to advance towards Kail al-Raih area and al-Katab Mountain in Nehm.

Meanwhile, Saudi fighter jets kept flying over the areas intensively to support their foiled attempt of the mercenaries on the ground, the official added.

Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

About 11,403 people have been killed and over 19,343 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.

Yemeni forces have been engaged in retaliatory attacks against the Saudi forces deployed in the country as well as targets inside Saudi Arabia.
