A total of 37 Saudi-paid mercenaries were killed and 23 others wounded when the Yemeni army and popular forces repulsed attempts by mercenaries to infiltrate toward Osaylan district of Shabwah province overnight, a military official told the state-run news agency Saba on Tuesday.

The operation took place on Monday in al-Hajer and al-Alam areas, leaving dozens of the mercenaries died and injured.

Meanwhile, the national army bombed two military vehicles of the mercenaries in the confrontation in the same area, the official said.

Saudi Arabia began its deadly campaign against Yemen in late March 2015. The strikes were meant to undermine the Houthi Ansarullah movement and restore power to fugitive former president Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

About 11,403 people have been killed and over 19,343 injured since Riyadh launched the airstrikes. The Saudi aggression has also taken a heavy toll on Yemen’s facilities and infrastructure.

Yemeni forces have been engaged in retaliatory attacks against the Saudi forces deployed in the country as well as targets inside Saudi Arabia.
