UN special envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed welcomed "tangible progress" to end hostilities in the war-torn country, while peace talks between the Hadi regime and the Ansarullah movement continue today.

Cheikh Ahmed showed optimism while referring to the meeting in Kuwait between ambassadors of the five UN Security Council Permanent Country Members and the European Union, and delegations of the Ansarullah and the People’s General Congress Party.

The parties discussed the consolidation of the ceasefire as a first step towards a total and definitive solution to the crisis in the poorest country of the Arab world.

According to Cheikh Ahmed, diplomats also stressed their optimism in what they described as successful consultations in Kuwait and the materialization of the peace in Yemen through a final agreement.

"Reports indicate real improvement in the situation which reflects the parties’ commitment to the cessation of hostilities," Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed said in a statement at the end of the fifth day of negotiations. A ceasefire co-ordination committee and local committees were "exerting extraordinary efforts to ensure the safety and security of Yemenis".

Meanwhile, delegations continue the dialog in this capital to reduce differences, especially after failing in reaching an agreement on the need to consolidate the fragile truce in place since April 11th.

Mohamed Abdulsalam, Houthi spokesperson and head of the delegation, said the continuation of air strikes against roads, bridges and houses by the Saudi-led coalition proves that the announcement of the cessation of military actions in groundless.
