Dozens of activists rallied o Tuesday in the UK to condemn the ongoing Saudi-led war against Yemen.
March 26 marks the fourth years since the Saudi-led coalition launched its devastating military campaign against Yemen to forcefully reinstate the resigned regime of former President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.
The activists heeded the invitation of the British group, Stop the War Coalition, and gathered at 10 Downing Street.
They denounced Britain’s complicity in the Saudi war against Yemen and urged the UK to stop selling arms to Riyadh.
"Has there ever been a vote in Parliament for Britain to go to war with the people of Yemen? No there has not. We say no more war," said Lloyd Russell-Moyle, a Labor Co-operative MP.
For his part, Stop the War’s Chris Nineham called for “an end to the disastrous participation of the British military in the war on Yemen. If the majority of people in this country were aware of what's going on, they would oppose it. It's our job to get the word out."
Meanwhile, peace and anti-war activist Kate Hudson blamed the British government for being largely “responsible for the suffering in Yemen,” accusing it for breaking its own rules regarding weapons sales. “That is exactly what we do when we sell arms to Saudi Arabia."
Earlier in the day, the UK’s Foreign Secretary and the International Development Secretary released a joint statement calling .
Foreign Secretary, Jeremy Hunt, and the International Development Secretary, Penny Mordaunt, urging “both sides to urgently implement the agreements made at the Stockholm peace talks and end this dire conflict.”
