The European Union on Tuesday expressed its deepest condolences to the families of the victims killed in the Saudi-led coalition’s air raids on Yemen’s Hajjah province and wished the injured a speedy recovery.
The airstrikes killed at least 22 civilians, including nine women and 13 children, over the weekend in a village in the Kushar district.
“The EU expects all the parties to stick to their respective commitments and swiftly implement the provisions of the Hodeidah ceasefire, especially the mutual redeployment of forces,” the EU spokesperson said in a statement. “They should engage with the UN Special Envoy, in good faith, to fulfil the UN Security Council Resolutions 2451 and 2452.”
The European Union stressed that the implementation of the Stockholm Agreement is “a matter of extreme urgency”, adding that “it is essential to lay the groundwork for progress towards an inclusive political solution, which is the only option to put an end to this long conflict.”
The Stockholm agreement was signed by both Yemeni parities in December 2018. They reached an agreement on the city of Hodeida and its ports, Salif and Ras Issa, an executive mechanism on activating the prisoner exchange agreement, as well as a statement of understanding on Taiz.
