The head of the Houthi Ansarullah movement’s delegation and chief negotiator, Mohammad Abdulsalam, met with Britain’s foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt in Oman on Friday.
During the meeting, Abdulsalam discussed the challenges and obstacles facing the Sweden Conference with Hunt.
Abdulsalam stressed on the Houthi leadership’s commitment to the Hodeida agreement, rejecting any new addition or condition to the already approved agreements in Stockholm in December.
The Houthi official pointed to attempts by the coalition-backed Hadi regime to backtrack from the agreed upon plan submitted by the chair of the redeployment coordination committee (RCC) regarding the first phase in Hodeida.
He added that the other side wanted to include additional conditions and new cases.
For his part, Hunt reaffirmed his country support for the Sweden agreement, adding that Britain will continue talking with all parties, including Riyadh and Abu Dhabi in order to push the peace process forward.
The meeting is part of the UK Foreign Secretary Hunt’s three-day visit to the Middle East in an effort to salvage Yemen’s faltering ceasefire.
Hunt, who has travelled to the region twice recently to help the peace efforts, as well as flying to Sweden for the talks in December, is scheduled to travel to Riyadh and Dubai.
In the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Hunt is to meet the newly appointed Saudi foreign minister, Ibrahim al-Assaf.
