Amnesty Intl: UK Must Stop Arming Saudi Arabia

The international human rights organization, Amnesty International, issued an urgent action calling on the UK to stop selling weapons to Saudi Arabia.

It also urged people to take the initiative and demand the British Secretary of State for International Trade to halt the supply of weapons to Riyadh.

“This must be stopped. Call on Secretary of State for International Trade Liam Fox to stop the UK supplying deadly weapons to Saudi Arabia,” Amnesty International UK stated.

Saudi Arabia is heading a coalition of Arab countries that launched a military campaign against Yemen in an attempt to forcefully reinstate the resigned regime of former Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

“The British government are selling billions of pounds worth of weapons to Saudi Arabia, fuelling a dreadful conflict that's left 22 million people struggling simply to survive,” the international organization added. “Thousands of people have been killed. Despite this unimaginable human suffering, the UK government has shown no signs of halting their sales.”

The Saudi-led military aggression against Yemen in early 2015 has wrecked the country's medical, water and sanitation systems, resulting in the outbreak of cholera and other deadly diseases. Thousands of civilians, especially children, have lost their lives either in airstrikes or fighting hunger.
