Human Rights Watch’s (HRW) UN director Louis Charbonneau on Friday did not express surprise toward the US administration’s stance regarding the war crimes committed by the Saudi-led coalition.
“Unsurprisingly the Trump administration was not interested in any language on accountability for war crimes in Yemen in the UNSC resolution, knowing that the violations are mainly by Saudi-led coalition,” Charbonneau wrote in a Twitter post.
He added, “while it hints of possible “further measures” to end #Yemen humanitarian crisis, UNSC resolution brushed aside calls for accountability.”
He called on the UNSC to consider sanctioning the “worst violators— senior Saudi, Emirati & Houthi officials”, adding that “no one should be selling arms to Saudi.”
