Yemeni Foreign Minister Hisham Sharaf reiterated his government’s commitment to a peaceful political solution in his country during a meeting with the UN Secretary-General’s Special Envoy to Yemen, Martin Griffiths.
Griffiths arrived in Sana’a on Wednesday in the lead up to UN-sponsored peace talks that are due to commence in Sweden late this month.
For his part Sharaf underscored the importance of the talks in reaching a settlement to establish a sustainable peace.
At the meeting, the UN envoy presented a summary of his recent moves in a number of capitals and his consultations with members of the UN Security Council.
Griffiths said that “there is a real chance to bring peace to Yemen, and all parties must seize it to contribute to ending the humanitarian disaster and the suffering of the Yemeni people.”
