The Saudi-led Arab Coalition in Yemen has admitted that mistakes were made in its compliance of the rules of engagement during an operation it carried out in July.
According to the national news agency WAM, the statement comes after the Joint Forces Command of the Coalition to Restore Legitimacy in Yemen viewed the findings of the Joint Incidents Assessment Team (JIAT).
The team had earlier compiled a report addressing claims that an aid operation on August 9 in Yemen’s Saada Governorate inflicted damage on a civilian bus.
The coalition said legal proceedings are now underway to hold those who committed the mistakes accountable for their actions.
UAE forces are providing logistics and military support to the land, air and sea operations launched by the Saudi-led Coalition.
40 children were among 51 people killed in a Saudi-led coalition air strike on a bus in northern Yemen last month. 56 children were also among the 79 people wounded in the Saudi-led aggression.
Since 2015, Saudi Arabia has been leading a military campaign against Yemen. The war has left nearly 10,000 people martyred and unleashed what the UN describes as the world’s worst current humanitarian crisis.
