Further insight into the horror of life in Yemen has emerged as an Amnesty International report reveals abuses.

Amnesty says “grave violations” have been committed by all sides of the conflict.

Kate Nevens of the organisation’s Scotland team said increasing number of “ordinary member of the public” are being caught up as the tensions that have riven the country “ramp up”, with a rise in the number of women being detained.

Nevens said: “This case fits the pattern of arbitrary disappearances and the use of secret prisons.

“Access is extremely difficult to not just Houthi-controlled areas but most areas in Yemen at the moment.

“Countries like the UK need to immediately suspend arms to any country using weapons in this conflict.”

The UK Government has refused to suspend the sale of arms to countries involved including Saudi Arabia and Bahrain despite evidence of war crimes, such as the bombing of hospitals.
