UN: ’Civilian’ Death Toll Up to Almost 1,900 in Yemen Conflict

The United Nations [UN] said on Tuesday that the civilian death toll from four months when the conflict escalated in March in Yemen has risen to almost 1,900, with at least 202 people killed over the past 12 days.

 

Since March 26, a Saudi-led coalition backed by the United States has been carrying out airstrikes against Yemen. The airstrikes have not been authorized by the UN.

According to Ravina Shamdasani, who spoke on behalf of the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights [OHCHR], the total number of civilians killed since March 26 is 1,895 while 4,182 others have been injured.

Only between 16 and 27 July, she added, at least 202 civilians had been killed, and 353 other civilians wounded. 

Also, the most recent update from the UN Children’s Fund [UNICEF brings the number of children killed to 365, while 484 others have been injured.
